a museum that grows

with you

We reimagined Abby, a new museum in Kortrijk, as a living friend rather than a static space. Our concept blends play, art, and gentle connection to help young solo-livers feel at home - growing alongside Abby, one seed at a time.

Situation

Making museums feel like a 2nd home

Abby wanted to attract more young adults. We needed a concept that made Abby more than a place to look at art.

Our Goal

Understanding how final interactions shape the grieving process

Our goal was to design a way for young solo-living adults to grow alongside Abby - because Abby itself is also growing, still figuring out who it is.

Listening First
We started by visiting Abby. Then we hit the streets and interviewed ten young people living alone - listening for what they needed, not just what they said and loneliness kept surfacing.

Diverging & Converging
We diverged (role-plays, word associations, crazy 8s, flipped assumptions) and converged on two concepts: a Mirror of Growth and a Growing Game. Abby chose the game. Over 4 weeks, it evolved from an AR line connecting strangers to a digital question game across the museum.

AR and how it works
Over four weeks, the concept evolved from an AR line connecting strangers to a digital game across the museum's three rooms - each mixing icebreakers, prompts, and tasks.

How to play
Players answer questions and connect with others. At the end, they receive a real seed to plant in Abby's garden, a reason to return. City posters, Instagram presence, a micro-website, and the in-museum game with an AR layer.

Always improving
Everything was tested three times, redesigned after each round, and refined until strangers were genuinely connecting.
