Situation
Smart homes that still made you do all the thinking.
At Aaltra, we noticed a gap: IoT systems are great at collecting data, but they put all the interpretation burden on the user. The space was smart, but the experience wasn't.
Our Goal
Turn hidden data into clear, spatial support.
Design AURA: an IoT, AI, and spatial-interface concept that proactively guides people through their environment - no looking things up required.
Process

Mapping people's interactions
I mapped how people interact with adaptive environments, splitting "office" and "home" contexts since each triggers different behaviors. Structuring these as journeys in Smaply made a scenario testable.
Research

Designing what AR could actually look like
Next, I researched existing AR experiences to understand where the category stood - then started designing AURA's own visual language: an active smart home, privacy boards for managing data access, and early explorations applied to real Aaltra client cases.
Design

Bringing it to life
Since my design wasn't gonna be yet coded - I always search interactive ways to show the concept to the client. Here I used animations using after effects and figma make to simulate the experience - and having a coding background made working with Figma Make even easier!
Interactive Prototype

Building an AI design system for AURA
The last phase was making AURA scalable: a design system for AI that lets it generate new interfaces on demand while staying true to AURA's visual identity. The secret was a design system with good descriptions for the AI to understand it better!
